Buying An Antique Wrist Watches by Craig Rad

Prior to the 1970s quartz watches, the mechanical watches were most popular. Vintage watches were the mechanical watches which have now become antique items. After 1970s quartz watches were most popular, this drove the vintage or mechanical watch manufacturers out of the business.

Today you will not see vintage watches anymore. Those businesses have gone out of business since long. Several big companies had introduced new watches to the market, which were soon popular and the old watch maker disappeared or merged into large watch companies.

As the vintage watches became obsolete, there value and demand increased for the antique collectors. People who collect watches know the charm of vintage watches. They fell fortunate enough if they find one, or they get one from somewhere else.

Some people are lucky enough that they have antique watches which are transferred down to them in the family, from father to son or mother to daughter. Some people are spellbound by their charm; some are drawn to their intricate mechanical workings that control complicated chronograph, calendar and tidal data.

Some are captivated by their fancy looks; some buy them because it looks good on them. Some buy them because it gives an impression of maturity, some love their material and some buy them as quality investment.

Vintage watches also give us the opportunity to wear something which is unique, antique, very stylish and yet very familiar. So wearing an antique watch will never look odd, rather it will add a charm and maturity in your personality, which does not come with modern and digital watches.

That is why those old days mechanical watches are becoming more popular again. Their designs are mocked up by the modern watch manufacturers.

If we go into the near past, the era of your grandfathers, there was another very popular watch, which was common those days.

It was the classic pocket watch. In my opinion, today if someone has this watch, a watch collector who has lot money in his pockets would not resist to buy it at the spot. It was a very decent and elegant way of carrying time with you. Although its totally obsolete now, but the charm and the classic touch it brought to the watch industry will always remain there.

Collecting watches need prior knowledge and experience. And in case of pocket watches it needs much more effort and knowledge than the other antique watches. You will be amazed to know that how much you need to know before you step into a store to buy one for yourself. To find a unique wrist watch, you have to learn and then apply the knowledge while buying an antique watch.

The serious collectors want serious and unique stuff. So some times for confirmation, they travel to places to find out its original owner to make sure it is original and also to know the history behind it. If after all this you have a wrist watch that is unique, you can proudly put it into your collection and can easily impress others.
