Will You Be Using Ebay This Year? by Shawn Wilson

With the growing uncertainty in the global markets most of us will be spending less this year during the holidays. The question is are you going to buy less, buy used or find discount retailers to buy from instead of boutique shops?

Spending less is probably the easiest way to go, explaining to your kids why they received less than Timmy down the road is never easy but an essential life lesson. We all have a great excuse this year to spend less money and quite frankly consume less. The Christmas holidays create a massive amount of waste, first the wrapping paper, the boxes the products come in and the fact that your child will find his new toy boring and never play with it again after about 3 months. Spending less is not only good for your pocket book it's great for environment.

The next option you have is buying used and while this doesn't always appeal to everyone sites like Ebay have a plethora of great used goods that can easily be passed off as new. Passing things off as new to anyone under the age of 5 will be easy, giving your pre teen another great life lesson is what we call priceless. This is yet another example of how we can save money, reduce our overall consumption and teach ourselves and our children a valuable lesson. I think I just convinced myself to buy used products this year!

Now onto the discount retailers and let's face it most of us already spend a fare bit of time and money at discount retailers because of the price and usually nothing more. There is nothing convenient about the lack of service these large retailers offer nor the huge lineups at the cash. I firmly believe if you have to wait more than 10 minutes to pay for something and it's directly related to a lack of staff you should legally be allowed to steal the products in your cart. Anyways the sad part is there are fewer boutique retailers out there so you will most likely be purchasing some of the holiday gift items from a big box store anyways.

Here is how you can avoid all of this and stay within the comfort of your own home. Use an online retailer like Ebay. With any online auction site you have the ability to save money on new products much like a big box discount retailer. You can also find all of the used products on your list in one place. I myself will be using online retailers this year for many reasons including the ones listed above.

The one thing about this time of the year that literally gives me the shakes is how busy the shopping malls get. I hate shopping malls on a Tuesday in the middle of January, two weeks before December 25th to me it's like the plague I avoid it at all costs. I love my fellow man, I don't however love anything in multiples of 10,000 unless we're talking about the positive balance in my bank account.

My big tip for this year's holidays is, buy online! You can do more research, budget better, save lots of money and maybe teach yourself and your family a fantastic life lesson. Happy Holidays!
