How Weight Loss Can Be Improved

Understanding how weight loss can be affected by the way we feel can enable us to improve our ability to lose weight and keep it off. Although following a weight loss diet and increasing the amount of exercise you take are important steps towards reaching your goal, they don't always work on their own.
One of the reasons people want to lose weight is to feel better, both physically and mentally. However, they tend to become discouraged if the pounds aren't shifting fast enough or if they get stuck at the same weight for a few weeks. Does this sound familiar? You've no doubt been there yourself and so you know what happens when you're feeling down about your progress - you eat.
What if you could feel better before you lose weight? This might sound difficult if you've been struggling with overweight or obesity for years, but it is possible. The secret is to start slowly and not expect to completely transform your feelings overnight. Getting yourself to feel better is easier when you aren't right at the opposite end of the scale. So start when you are feeling reasonably good. As you get better at it, you'll find it easier to move out of negative feelings.
Begin by finding things that you do feel good about and focus on those. It can be something quite simple. If you can't find anything about yourself which you can feel good about, start with something else. It could be stroking a cat or playing with a child, walking in the park and really looking at the beautiful spring flowers or the colour of the leaves in autumn. It could be listening to a piece of music or singing along with a CD of your favourite song, or reading a good book.
There are several different things happening here - when you feel better, it's much easier to exercise and to say no to chocolate. So if you can find ways to feel better, you'll find your weight loss diet easier to follow and you'll take a bit more exercise. And if you are focusing on something else, you are less likely to think of food.
Try it out for a while and gradually extend the periods of feeling good by doing more things you enjoy. You might be surprised at how weight loss can be improved by this simple technique.
