Christmas Shopping - Orlando Style by John Macrae
OK - Lets face it, the number one destination for Christmas shopping in recent years has been New York! Yes, New York, New York, USA. Why?
Well, that's a very good question! Lets face it, New York is a great place to go sightseeing but in winter? Yes, its quick to get there and back and the exchange rate makes it a very attractive place to go shopping. However, its also a very cold, wet, and fairly polluted place to go!
How about going to a place where you can go, get the same exchange rate, the same shops and probably better bargains as well as top up your sun tan and have lots of fun in the world-famous parks, as well as the renowned night life!
Yes - its all here in Orlando, Florida. Sunshine is almost guaranteed with daily highs in November and December of 70-80 degrees (20-30C). Yes its further to fly (an hour and a half) but the fares are no more. You can rent a car and drive on the wide, open roads between shopping centers like the Mall at Millennia, the Florida Mall, Premium Outlets each of which is probably a days' serious shopping in itself! The there are all the excellent stores that offer outstanding bargains at that time of year. No walking the streets of New York with heavy bags, just dump them in the car and drive to the next venue!
Where to stay? Well, rather than all cram into a hotel room, why not try a vacation rental? Its low season and you'll be able to pick up a 4 or 5 bedroomed vacation home with private heated pool for the same price as a single room in a decent hotel.
A vacation rental home has loads of advantages for the Christmas shopper! First - you'll have a spare bedroom for the shopping! No tripping over bags on the way to the toilet in the middle of the night! You'll have a master suite with en suite bathroom, maybe several! The private pool is a real treat - It can be heated (necessary) but with daily highs in the 70s and 80s there's plenty of scope for swimming and sunbathing when you're all shopped out!
So whether you plan to do your Christmas shopping as a family or as a 'girls shopping trip' plan to come to Orlando this year - the shopping is just as good, the weather is infinitely better and there's a lot more to do when the shopping is done, especially when you stay in a vacation rental home.
