Remote Controlled Model Tank Fun

by Victor Epand

One of the fastest growing hobbies for model tank builders is the construction and/or battling of remote controlled tanks. These so called R/C tanks are booming in popularity but you might not have seen them at your local giant retail store.

So, how do you get into this hobby, and more importantly where can you go to buy the remote controlled tanks you are searching for? The first step you should take is to check any local hobby shops in your area. There may even be a store that specializes in remote controlled vehicles. If they do not have what you are looking for then ask them if they can order them or if they know somewhere you can get them.

If they do not know a retailer then they may know an individual that is looking to get rid of one. If this is a bust then you can move on to the Internet. Start out by checking the giant online toy stores. Most of the Items that they care online will be well stocked and they may be a good deal cheaper as well. This is due mainly in fact to the retailers' ability to buy the tanks in bulk numbers. One thing you may have to consider is the cost of shipping as well as sales tax that your state may require you to pay.

If these do not pay off either then you might consider checking out online auction sites. Many of these will have an area just for R/C vehicles where you might be able to find the R/C model tank you have been looking for. You might also consider a website that will allow you to place "want" adds to let others know what you are looking for.

Once you have found the R/C model tank you have been looking for you are ready for some fun. Check into the availability of R/C hobby groups in your area that you may be interested in. Some of these groups will hold battles or races from time to time.

One thing you might want to think about is buying extra accessories so that you will have them ahead of time instead of getting caught at the last minute without extra tires or an extra battery or two. This will save you any down time and allow you to get make to your battling or racing. Good luck and happy collecting!
